My Original Proposal:
For my EDGE project I would like to offer free community yoga classes to anyone interested in yoga. I am a dancer, a dance instructor, a student, a wife, and a mom to three children and feel that yoga is a wonderful way for everyone to connect to themselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a health conscious person, I would like to become yoga certified and want to share my knowledge and passion for yoga with others. Yoga has always been something I wanted to become certified in and the EDGE project pushed me to get my certification and to begin teaching others. This project will not only benefit the community and those I teach, but it will also help me to practice becoming a better yoga teacher. I plan on offering classes anywhere and everywhere I can in Cedar City, Utah. I am gearing my classes towards beginners who have never taken yoga before, but will also offer modifications for those who might be more advanced than the beginner to challenge them. I hope by offering multiple classes, the students can better understand the basic poses, gain greater flexibility and strength, and see a difference in their personal life’s through regular practice.

Proposed Outcomes:
I am hoping to see many positive outcomes from my
EDGE project. I feel it will help me to
become more confident in my teaching and in myself overall. I have been teaching dance for many years,
but yoga is much harder, in my mind, to teach so I hope this will help me gain
the skills necessary to begin a career as a yoga teacher. I am hoping to learn to always remember to
try new things and to take myself outside of my comfort zone from the people I
will be interacting with for my project.
I am targeting my teaching to those that have never taken yoga before or
have never had the opportunity to. I
think it is an important lesson to learn to continually grow and push myself,
and hopefully this experience will inspire me to do that. My field of study and career is dance. This encompasses me performing, teaching
others, and continuously learning new modes of movement. Yoga is a great way to help condition a
dancer’s body and find balance. I want
to learn how to best translate yoga for dancers and to learn to become a better
teacher through oral communication to my students.
